Daily Devotion: April 24

2 Tim 3:16-17
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

Psalm 19:9-10
"The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous. 10 They are more desirable than gold— than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb."

I am an information hoarder. If there was a sport for going down article holes or falling for click-bait, I would be a top competitor. Whether it be, “How to find the perfect sourdough starter,” or “can world hunger actually be cured?,” or “are the hiccups a symptom of the coronavirus?” – I will seek out information online about anything. The problem is those sources of information aren’t reliable and are full of opinions from imperfect people. And while, “Marriage for Dummies” might be a fun read, it is never going to give me the guidance I need. If anything, it might confuse me more.

It can be easy to go down a rabbit hole online but yet so difficult to take time to open up my Bible.

The beauty of the Bible is that while mere men penned it, it its God-breathed. Everything in there is a profitable learning tool. If this stuff is God-breathed, you can bet that I want to be breathing it too. So next time you need advice on conflict in marriage, how to be (and make) a friend, or if you should pay taxes, turn to the most reliable source. When someone you love turns to you for counsel and guidance, point them to the most true compass. From the practical, to the beautiful, to the heart-shifting truths, it will never steer you wrong. When we open our Bible and allow God to speak to us, it changes us. Our faith isn’t ONLY about the Bible, but it does lead us into everything we need. It equips us to not just be hearers of the word, but doers as well (James 1:22). It is worth treasuring, holding close, and breathing in every bit.
